New to living alone?
Welcome to the Living Well Alone Project, and to an entirely new way of life. How you’re feeling about living alone probably depends a bit on how and why you’ve started living by yourself – and whether it’s been a positive shift, or a more difficult one.
However you’ve started living alone, the first thing to know is that you’re not alone. Millions of people around the world live alone, for all sorts of different reasons – and the numbers are growing all the time. No matter your circumstances, you’re part of a community of people from all walks of life – and one that reaches around the globe.
The second thing to know is that almost everyone finds themselves going through a learning curve as as they start to get to grips with the practical and emotional aspects of living alone for the first time. This can feel overwhelming – especially if you’re living alone for the first time after a traumatic experience like separation, divorce, or bereavement. Know that this is completely normal – and that there are simple, practical steps you can take to start feeling more in control.
The Living Well Alone Project is here to help you answer the question ‘how do I do this?’ We’re a social enterprise, with a mission to help those living by themselves to move towards more confident, authentic, healthy, connected lives, promoting a more positive perception of solo living while remaining realistic about its unique challenges. You can sign up for our monthly newsletter for posts, articles, links, reviews, offers, quotes and even cartoons, all tailored for people just like you.
As you start your solo journey, we’ve developed some sections specifically for you (see below), with links to bespoke information to help you on your way. You might also want to have a look at our Founder Hannah’s popular blog, and our ‘how to live alone’ resources section (in particular our bookshop and In The News pages).
We run the biggest online community of people who live alone in the world – you can see what’s happening simply by liking our Facebook Page, and you’re also very welcome to join our lively private chat group, SoloTalk. You might find it helpful to hear from other people who live alone via our story collections.
